Depictions of Wǔ
On Quinn’s sixteenth solo record, “Depictions of Wǔ”, you will discover five stunning sonic odysseys, each over ten and a half minutes long, that gracefully merge the enchantment of Chinese music, art and culture, into a Western, cinematic and pop landscape. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful cinematography of Wong Kar-Wai, Zhang Yimou, Hou Hsiao-Hsien and the unique sound and costuming of the ancient tradition of Chinese Opera, you’ll be carried away into a realm where the mysteries of the Far East, and the dynamic streets of Los Angeles, blur their edges to create a whole new global stylized soundtrack.
Along with Quinn’s known evocative and vivid production style, you will hear amazing singers from Beijing, Shanghai and Mongolia, singing in Mandarin and Cantonese, as well as traditional Chinese Opera drumming, percussion and instrumentation.
