Till You Switch off the Lights
Noir is a jazz trio made up of Kris Spiteri on piano, Edward Ellul on bass and Alex
Debono on drums. The pieces in the album were composed by Spiteri except for the
band’s rendition of iċ-Ċimiterju by the band Brodu.
The new style of the band blends classical music, rock and jazz together to create a
sound which verges on cinematic music. Ideas flow freely through these genres in
order to create one sonic picture. In the album one can also hear the voice of award
winning writer Immanuel Mifsud reading excerpts from his poems accompanied by
improvisations by the the band.
The artwork for the album's booklet was designed by the Anglo-Lebanese artist Sean
Mackaoui, who lives and works in Madrid, Spain. The works form part of the suite
“Unchained” presented in the Tamsin Wilkinson Editions
Noir’s first performance was at the Malta Jazz Festival of 2006. From then on the trio had
several gigs on the island, including ‘Longing’, a concert at St James Cavalier in 2011. Noir
features on Nadine Axisa’s album ‘Velvet’
