The Shensi-Kansu-Ningsia Border Region was a revolutionary base built up during the period of Chinas Second Revolutionary Civil War. After 1935, it became the central revolutionary bsse area of the Chinese revolution. Yenan was its capital. It was here that the great leader of the Chinese people Chairman Mao Tsetung and the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party headed by him led and directed the Chinese peoples struggle which defeated the Japanese aggressors and the Kuomintang reactionaries and libetated the whole of China.
These five revolutionary folk songs came into being and prevailed in the Shensi-Kansu-Ningsia Border Region at that time.
