Billy J - Journey of a Man
Billy J has been on the music scene since his debut release “One Step Closer” in 2005. Which became one of the fastest selling independently released CD’s to date overseas and abroad. Billy has become a household name overseas. He has gained a lot of fans along this journey of super stardom.

Born November 4, 1983 in Detroit, Michigan to mother Kim Johnson and father Billy Underwood. Billy gives a lot of credit to his magnificent mother. While growing up he use to hear her sing with other family members or she’ll be at home singing while she was cleaning. He started singing in the same church choir his mother and other family members did under the same direction of his Aunt Helen Moore, she gave him priceless information that he still carries with him today.

He credit’s a lot of R&B singers that paved the way for him like: Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, Smoky Robinson, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and so many others.

Billy took sometime off to regroup himself and to work on his weakness. He wanted to perfect his craft in everyway. He didn’t take much time off before he started working material for his brand new album titled “Journey of a Man”. Billy took his time and recorded this album, and he says, “It’s one of his best albums yet”. He also wanted to have a different sound so he called on (Craig Te) an amazing writer from Detroit, to help him achieve his challenge and they have created another fantastic masterpiece.

This album was very inspirational to Billy has he underwent a physical transformation. He said, “The recording of this album was like therapy, I was able to release a lot of painful memories I’ve kept inside since I was younger”. He even decided to change his stage name to Billy J instead of Billy Johnson. He believes Billy J really says who he is. At a young age he begin dealing with high blood pressure issues, and going through this transformation he started eating healthy and well balanced meals, exercised and lost 45 pounds. Billy Says he feels like a new man and is very happy with himself with the changes he has made.

At 23, Billy J seems to have it all together and now he’s back with a blazing hot new single titled” Pick Up The Phone”, which features rapping sensation Bobby Johnson another up and coming artist from Detroit. He hopes that this album will give men and future men especially men of color the courage and the inspiration that’s needed to make it in today’s society. He is willing and ready to let you, the listeners into another side of Billy J.
