Best of 80's Dance, Vol. 3: #1 80's Dance Club Hits
The Best of 80s Dance series has been among the top albums in the Apple® iTunes® Music Store for years now, proving that audiences still enjoy hearing their favorites from the past recast as contemporary, commercial dance music. For this third installment in the series, our subsidiary label, CIDC, has really pulled-out all the stops, bringing together some of the very best domestic dance artists and some very influential European ones as well to create a slammin’ 15-track collection!
Andrew Spencer starts-off with a great take on Video Killed the Radio Star, the song made famous by The Buggles. Raquela, hardly a stranger to dance music, brings her incredible vocal power to bear with Tell It To My Heart, originally made famous by Taylor Dayne. Our own Cary August belts out a faithful version of the INXS hit, Need You Tonight, a personal favorite of August’s. Ohsha Kai draws from her Philadelphia roots to reinterpret I Can’t Wait, the megahit for 80’s band Nu Shooz. True dance diva Pepper MaShay delivers with Freeway of Love paying homage to the original artist, Aretha Franklin. Then Carol Hahn brings us Bette Davis Eyes, a favorite of hers originally from Kim Carnes.
Jaybee feat. Morris delivers Shattered Dreams, a late-80’s classic originally from Johnny Hates Jazz, while CAPP’s own Rikah contributes a touching rendition of the Cyndi Lauper favorite, Time After Time. New York’s Dare 2B Dif’rnt covers the Kate Bush classic Running Up That Hill, with additional vocals from the phenomenal Nancy Yvonne. The beloved Jacinta gives us her take on fellow Aussie Olivia Newton-John’s classic, Magic. Fab (Fabrizio Levita) is a charming Italian entertainer who brings us Stand By Me, which dates back to 1961, but was also a hit in the 70’s and 80’s.
Finally, Nivek Tek brings us a soulful rendition of Erasure’s A Little Respect, while The Undeniable kicks-out a credible take on the Culture Club classic Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. DJ Cobra and Angelstar deliver an incredible take on the Survivor megahit, Eye of the Tiger. The final track comes from Germany’s Topmodelz with an awesome cover of Take on Me, the track that made A-Ha the best-selling Norwegian musical artist in history.
We hope you enjoy playing out this incredible collection of 80s hits, reinterpreted for the dancefloor. Based on the incredible popularity of this series on iTunes, it’s clear that this great music resonates and continues to be timeless indeed! Check-out Best of 80s Dance, Volume 3!
