After the Fall
“This says to say something about the song. So I will say that this song has many deep connections for me. I wrote the chord progression and only had the chorus. I didn’t know where to go with the verses. My daughter, Kenya, decided that she wanted a go at it. She came back with those first two verses. I was blown away. Not only because we just wrote something together. That was mind blowing in its own right. It was the way the verses felt and how they told a story. It caught you right from the beginning. I wanted to know where it was going to go. Then she felt she went as far as she could go. That was far enough for me to get the direction that I needed to finish them.
At that same time I had just gone back to Philadelphia and reconnected with Dion Paci (Guitar/Drums). We started playing guitar together when were 10. We started from backyard concerts to playing bigger shows as we got older. Then we got into different music situations taking us to different directions.
He came to visit me in Seattle and we went to the ToyBox (Studio) to record. We did hours of us playing and recording drums and bass so that we can go back and see if anything sticks out. We also laid down the rhythm track for this song with Adam Hicks on Keys.
I had just played with Phialna Goodrich (Vocals) for her CD release. Her tone and phrasing add an extra depth of emotion to the song. She makes you feel the story. Not just hear the words. “ – Bob Lovelace
