Yasmeen can sing just about anything! She is a spiritual psalmist, lyricist, published and award winning songwriter, author, professional counselor, and mother of the awesome voice of her daughter Summer. She has an interesting knack for bridging the old with the new and a unique way of blending a deep soul sounds into various genres such as gospel, jazz, hymns, old school hip hop, spirituals, blues, even “serious music.” She has a remarkable ear, stage presence, and spirit for music - with instrumentation or without.
Yasmeen grew up singing down home a cappella music with her sisters and other family members since the age of three. She is a conduit for the music of her ancestors, i.e. common meter, field hollers, ring shouts, etc. She grew up under the singing voices of her mother, Gladys Weaver, from the community of Ensley, in Birmingham, Alabama, her Preacher and quartet singing father, Edgar L. Williams of Fairplay Seneca, South Carolina, gospel hall of fame inductee and cousin Shirley Ables and family singers called The Service Gospel Singers. Under cultural singer, historian, and mentor, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon. she sang with the internationally acclaimed and Grammy Award winning a cappella sextet “Sweet Honey In The Rock” for approximately twenty years (10 years full time) and shortly thereafter for five years with ex-husband, harpist Jeffmajors. Yasmeen recorded her single cd in 1991 still in demand today throughout the country. "I've gotten a request for the same cd at least once a month since 1991" she adds. Yasmeen is an arts/academic specialists. She has a Bachelors Degree in English, A Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and is currently completing a Doctorate in Educational Psychology.
