The Quick & the Dead

The Quick & the Dead

Bio:
the Quick & the Dead are an Australian southern-rock band based out of small Victorian town Glenrowan. Consisting of brothers Rhys Duursma (vocals, drums) and Kai Duursma (guitar, vocals) as well as long-time friend Isaac Goeby (bass, vocals), the band has released one full length album Hunger in 2014 which was followed by the live acoustic Folk’n’Flight EP early 2015. They are releasing their self-titled second full length album August 2016.

History:
Growing up playing music together in many different forms, when Rhys started writing skeleton songs it was a natural progression to take them to brother Kai and as-good-as brother Isaac to flesh out and put life into the ideas. In 2014, after an ever increasing amount of performance opportunities, the trio partnered with Nathan ‘nado’ Warrick of Kane Audio to record their debut album Hunger which was released the same year. Inspired by stories of Zeppelin and Dylan the group recorded all the instruments live together, with minimal overdubs, over four intense days which was then followed by another two intense days of vocal tracking to complete the 14 track debut. The album captures a raw real expression of three brothers playing some rock n roll together. This album was followed by a month long tour of Australia’s east coast which saw their fan base expand even more.

Folk’n’flight EP:
In the last two days of November 2014 the Quick & the Dead gathered a rag-tag bunch of musician friends and family for a weekend of live acoustic songs. The recording that came out of this weekend became the Folk’n’Flight EP and was an attempt to capture that sometimes chaotic, sometimes imperfect act that is music and community. Among the eclectic moments is an adaption of ‘Long Road to Glory’, from Australian country artist Steve Grace, featuring rapper JUSTASIFI’D. The ep was recorded and mixed by Rhys Duursma and then released as a limited edition cassette.

Self-Titled:
the Quick & the Dead’s third, Self-Titled, release is a 14 track adventure that was almost entirely recorded in a farmhouse affectionately nicknamed ‘the Hilton’ and was completed in Rhys’ bedroom. Written, recorded and produced by the band it is their first release with instruments tracked individually. The album features a five song tale of cowboys, whisky and pistols, a track feat. rapper ‘River’ of Canberra band Weather Permitting and everything in between. Mixed by Jordan Grace it will be released September 1st, 2016.
