Kwabs
South London soul singer Kwabs has been hailed as “the new Seal.” And if Seal’s domination of the 90s is anything to go by, then Kwabs is in for the ride of his life (after all, Seal has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and married a supermodel). Kwabs’ sound combines smooth R&B with electro synths delicately nodding towards the 90s’ sonance, which is in no way a bad thing. For awhile it felt as though mainstream R&B artists have sacrificed the beseeching heart and loving acts for the lure of the dimly lit strip club and a few bottles of Henny. Kwabs’ sound may not be bluesy, but his brooding subject matter makes Kwabs a kindred soul to the broken hearted.
